Perhaps you would like to consider a Talalay latex mattress, and perhaps you, like most people will assume this means that such products are made from natural materials. Some times, this is not the case. Even though natural latex is manufactured from the sap of the rubber tree, there is a synthetic product too, that is created from petrochemicals. So as you do your research when buying your latex mattress, you will need to find out about the different types of latex yourself. There are two processes that manufacturers use to produce latex mattresses. With the normal or standard method, the liquid (whether it is the sap from rubber trees or the petrochemical type) is whipped into a froth, which then creates the millions and millions of air bubbles that are the reason for the special properties of a latex mattress. Then the liquid is poured into a mold, which is then sealed and heated until it cures into the form of the mattress. In the Talalay latex mattress method, the mold contains countless tiny pinprick spikes that will make lots of extra little channels for air to pass through. This method creates a latex mattress that is a lot more resilient and buoyant than most other types.

So far it sounds as if both methods work fine for producing a latex mattress, so exactly why would anyone want to consider using a petrochemical based substance at all? The main reason is that natural latex is often less comfortable than the synthetic product. So consumers will either go for a foam bed made entirely of the petrochemical latex or, at best, they blend in some of the chemical product to add extra give and softness to the naturally produced latex. This of course means that you can purchase a completely synthetic mattress, a completely natural mattress, or a mattress that is a blend of the two materials.
The end result of all this is, that before you purchase a latex mattress, do some homework, as it is an absolute must. If natural latex is blended with natural oils, then it may be as comfortable as an all-synthetic type mattress or maybe even a memory foam mattress. But even if the mattress has a eco friendly label, it may still contain some type of petrochemicals. So you will need to look for all of these things as you head out to purchase a mattress. Do some research to find out about both the manufacturers and their products, and find out the process and the materials they used. If you purchase a foam mattress, you will want to know exactly what you are getting before buy it and take it home.
